MSTA Fly-By Week

Ohio's Biggest and Best Sport-Touring Rally is coming to Marietta, Ohio, August 20-26, sponsored by Thunder Roads Ohio

Marietta, Ohio is located on the Ohio River in the southeast corner of Ohio, where the Appalachian Mountain region begins. It's filled with rolling terrain and beautiful farming countryside. The roads are a nice mix of turns and elevation changes. Just across the river is West Virginia, with its own collection of great roads.

Fly-By Week is the successor to the Motorcycle Sport Touring Association (MSTA) Mail-Pouch Fly-By, a weekend rally that ran for the past twenty years. It was originally named for the many Mail Pouch Tobacco-painted barns in the region, that rally attendees "fly-by" on their sport-touring bikes. Fly-By Week retains our friendly hotel venue, a great selection of fun routes, and our outdoor rider lounge behind the hotel with chairs, tables, and pop-ups where attendees can gather and socialize.

For 2018, Fly-By WEEK starts on Monday, August 20, running through Sunday, August 26. While we still expect most attendees to arrive on Thursday or Friday, those who have time and want to relax and explore the area can come early for a unique small-rally experience. Here are some of the things you can look forward to:

Routes- The centerpiece of any sport-touring rally is the suggested routes. Attendees come to ride great roads all day and socialize in the evening. Southeast Ohio and northern West Virginia are filled with great roads and this year there will be more than fifteen routes available in GPS and paper map formats. In addition to our collection of the best routes from the past twenty years, we have an all-new adventure route with dirt and gravel roads suitable for large adventure bikes such as the Yamaha Super Tenere and BMW GS1200.

Food- Since many attendees arrive on Friday, there will be a Friday evening cookout, featuring brats and other casual food. For Saturday, dinner is on your own so those who want to ride a long route don't have to hurry to get back to the hotel, which has complete dining and a well-stocked bar on the premises. There is also an excellent Mexican restaurant that's an easy five-minute walk with no street crossings.

Dinner Tours- Earlier in the week when attendance is light, enjoy social time and fine dining in downtown Marietta. We will have nightly dining excursions Monday - Thursday using a local shuttle service.

People- The Fly-By has always been a great place to make new friendships, renew old ones and find good people to ride with, so come on over to Marietta for MSTA Fly-By Week and join in the fun!

Best Western Marietta Hotel- Under new ownership this year, they are rolling out the red carpet for us. Double rooms are $75 plus tax and include a free breakfast buffet with good bacon and sausage, real scrambled eggs etc. There is also a bar and restaurant in the hotel that has reasonably priced drinks and a menu of sandwiches and dinner entrees including great steaks and BBQ ribs. The MSTA room rate and block of rooms closes on August 10, so get your event registration and room booking in early!

Registration for MSTA members is $15.

NON-MSTA ATTENDEES: Your $30.00 registration fee includes a FREE 1-year membership in the Motorcycle Sport Touring Association (regularly $39.00), in addition to your event registration.
