Destination ~ Amish Country!

As life becomes more complex and demanding, many of us turn to our bikes as a means of escape from the rat race and daily grind. As we hit the roads, what better destination than Ohio’s Amish Country! Northeast & Mid-Ohio are home to the first and second largest Amish communities in the country. This month we introduce and feature the largest community which includes Holmes, Wayne, Medina and Tuscarawas Counties. To this end, Thunder Roads Ohio presents a new regular feature and welcomes TRO contributor La Vonne De Bois. She brings 28 years’ experience as a tour guide in Ohio’s Amish Country. Her expertise on the area and relationships with local businesses and people are certain to ensure you get the most out of your ride. June’s Feature destination ~ Geauga County.

As riders, we have the ability to gain a greater appreciation for the roads, scenery, and culture found in the tranquil rolling hills of Ohio’s Amish Country. It’s truly a great escape and I want to share my knowledge and encourage you to make Ohio’s Amish Country a part of your ride story. For 28 years, I’ve scoured the backroads of Ohio’s Amish Country as a tour guide and consider it one of Ohio’s true treasures. Using this experience, I’ve designed 8 well-planned routes throughout the World’s Largest Amish Community – encompassing Medina, Wayne, Holmes, and Tuscarawas Counties. These routes are published and featured in a new brochure, “Ohio’s Amish Country Motorcycle Tours”. The brochure is digitally available online at ThunderRoadsOhio.com – while hard copies are free by contacting each respective county CVB, ride departure locations and all our sponsors on our page.

Holmes County boasts curvaceous scenic roads and caters to the motorcycle enthusiasts. Nearly every mile of state roads in Holmes County is designated as a National Scenic Byway. Along the route, you can’t help but take in the smell of fresh baked goods, fresh cut fields of hay and be surrounded by beautiful farmlands. Ride the “Holmes County Blitz” and start out with some new gear at Amish Country Leather. Located on Main Street in Berlin, Ohio, they offer a wide variety of quality leather jackets, boots, chaps, patches, helmets, and accessories.
