January Abate Article

Hi Friends,

Here we go starting a brand-new year – 2020. How long is it going to take to remember to write that the first time? We have some new changes coming and that is because the old ones are not working as well as we would like. The world is changing, and we need to keep up to date. We need to get the word out that we are here to Preserve our Rights, Improve our Image and Promote the Safe Operating Practices of Ohio Motorcyclists

ABATE, “American Bikers Aimed Towards Education”, is a freedom of choice organization dedicated to the premise that the individual is best suited to decide the type of motorcycle to ride, type of safety gear to wear and their personal lifestyle. The reason I made this statement is that I hear so many times that people don’t know what ABATE is about. Every riding organization should join ABATE of Ohio because we are looking out for all riders. An organization, riding group, social group or club can be a sustaining member that covers the whole group, or you can form a legislative committee and they can be a member. What would be the best is for the whole group to become individual members. ($20.00 a year membership and you get a FREE raffle bike ticket and $3,500 life and accident dismemberment insurance policy)

For many years we have monitored motorcycle related legislation. This year we have invested in a Call to Action program that will alert us to any legislation being presented that may influence the way we would like to ride our motorcycles. As a member you will have the opportunity to contact your legislator through this program. I belong to other Call to Action programs and I get answers from my legislators and they know the way I feel. We can make a difference!

We are less than a month away from the State Seminar 2020. This is a great place to learn what is going on in the motorcycle world. The day will be packed full of informational workshops and legislative updates. Friday evening is a meet and greet, a great place to make some new friends and we may have a few games to play. For more information or reservation info see the flier, or you can go on the ABATE web page, ABATE.com. If you have any problems with reservations, please use the contact numbers and we will help you out. This is a great place for our new Region Directors and Officers to get information.

Don’t forget that 2020 is an election year and we want to make a difference.  We can donate money from our PAC Fund to candidates that look out for motorcycle rights. We give this money out from the suggestions of our members to support any state candidate. Please contact your region director or the state office if you know of someone seeking office.

One of ABATE’s goals is to promote safety and to educate everyone to be aware of motorcycles. That is why we sell yard signs that say, “Look Twice and Save A Life”. We also pass out “Look out for Motorcycle” bumper magnets. Please help us promote motorcycle safety.

This year’s Awareness Rally kicking off May as Motorcycle Awareness Month will be Saturday May 2, 2020, starting at 9am at AD Farrow, Sunbury Ohio. Plans are in the works for the after-rally party. This year we will be giving an award for the largest group riding in from around the state.
