Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame seeks nominees for next class

Do you know a Vet that should recognized for their Military and Community Service?

The Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame is seeking nominations to honor people who have continued to contribute to their communities after their military service.

Nominees must be current or past Ohio residents who have been outstanding in volunteerism, advocacy, professional distinction, public service or philanthropy.

Each year, the Hall of Fame inducts up to 20 former members of the U.S. Armed Forces based on recommendations from a statewide executive committee of veterans and approval by the Ohio governor.

Nearly 900 veterans have been inducted since the hall’s 1992 inception. They include astronaut Neil Armstrong, actor Paul Newman and fast-food entrepreneur Dave Thomas.

The state Department of Veterans Services encourages people to submit nominations before a deadline of June 1, 2020.

You can find out more information and submit your nominations at dvs.ohio.gov/main/veterans-hall-of-fame.

Ride Guides and Calendars Support Local Veterans

Thunder Roads Ohio and ReasonsToRide.com have teamed with Combat Vets Motorcycle Association, Units 12-1 and 12-7, to produce regional motorcycle event calendars with a focus on Veterans events and Veteran service organizations.  These pocket guides include a comprehensive listing of both motorcycle and veteran oriented events being held from April through the end of the year.  Proceeds from the Calendars go to support local veterans programs and are coordinated by the CVMA.

The Ride Guides and Calendars will include profiles on Veterans Organizations across Ohio!

If you are involved in a Veterans organization – motorcycle or not – we’d encourage you to list any events that you might be hosting in the calendar.  You’re also able to include a Directory Listing for your organization along with contact information. This is a GREAT way to get the word out and possibly connect with both Veterans and those interested in helping you with your mission.

OVER 10,000 of the Calendars will be distributed within each region – and they will be emailed out to over 200,000 Riders across Ohio!

Veterans and grass roots non-profit organizations are able to list their events in the calendars for only $10-20 in most cases!   The goal is to make these guides an extremely cost effective means of getting information out for the various charitable organizations out there – and this is only accomplished with the support of local business sponsors.  We do charge slightly more for commercial event listings, and we welcome businesses and larger organizations to sponsor ad pages or possibly the calendar themselves. We believe that these are still very cost effective for the commercial organizations looking to reach both riders and Veterans – and we encourage you to help pass on the word to any companies or potential sponsors that you might know.
